On the morning of June 3, 2021, Mr. William A. Weathers affectionately known by his family and friends, as "Sonny" and "Bird" departed this earth for his heavenly home.
Viewing will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, Monday, June 7, 2021 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. The Celebration of Life will be 11am, Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, family and friends may join the family immediately following the celebration at New Life Community Church 111 North Dickson St., Michigan City, Indiana.
William was born in Grenada, Mississippi on February 9, 1934, to the union of William and Hixia Weathers, who preceded him by death.
He professed his Hope in Christ at an early age and was an active member of New Life Community Church, Michigan City, Indiana. His life was full of so many adventures. He was an antique car collector, avid sportsman, always fishing, hunting, and cooking all sorts of wild game. You never knew which surprise meat he prepared to eat at any time. William truly loved his family and showed his appreciation by sponsoring hog roast, reunions and Annual Thanksgiving hunting on the family compound.
William graduated from Carrie Dotson High School and sang in the Glee Club. In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and he received an Honorable Discharge in 1965.
He was a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, in the mid 80’s, William graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, Chicago, Illinois with obtaining an Associate of Applied Science degree.
William worked as Funeral Director and Embalmer at Fox Funeral Home, Grenada, Mississippi. After relocating to Michigan City, Indiana he continued his work as an Embalmer at Coleman-Williams Funeral Home alongside the late Leon Coleman Jr. He was a bridge tender for the Core of Engineers and he retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation.
William was a member of MASONIC LODGE M.W. Stringer Grand Lodge F&AM of Mississippi, Prince Hall Affiliation Riverdale Lodge #435 and a daily coffee clatch at McDonald’s with several now, deceased gentlemen.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 53 years, Melba, Michigan City, Indiana; two daughters, Nyta Steele of Memphis, Tennessee and Tiffany Weathers, Michigan City, Indiana; two grandchildren, Talia and T’Niae Steele of Memphis, Tennessee; one Sister, Berdie Jean Griffin, Jackson, Mississippi; one Brother, Jesse Lee (Mattie) Weathers, Jackson, Mississippi; Sister-in-law, Ophilia Weathers, Jackson, Mississippi, special nephews, Yapoo Shabaz and Kieth Watson, special friend, Tance C. Falls and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
William was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Watson, and Jackie Vaughn and one brother, Edgar Weathers.
