Thomas William Krauth passed away at age 65 on November 15, 2023 at Franciscan Hospital, Michigan City, Indiana. He was born in 1958 to the parents of Eleanor and William Krauth in El Paso, TX. He grew up in Madison, WI alongside his sister Patricia and two brothers, Jeffrey and Michael.
He attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison and received a Bachelor's degree in English Literature. In his twenties he moved to Indiana and married Susan Krauth. In 1997 they had their only child, Katie.
Thomas was a skilled carpenter, woodworker, and handyman. He designed and constructed two beautiful homes from the ground up. Throughout his life he worked a variety of different jobs, including taxi cab driver, newspaper deliverer, woodworker, and casino dealer.
He was a friend to animals and a lover of the woods and the natural world. With Susan and Katie, he raised chickens and gave a warm home to numerous adopted dogs and cats. Known for his sense of humor, his jokes, and his wit, he charmed everyone he met.
He was a deeply loving father who sought to instill in his daughter self-confidence, curiosity for the world, empathy for others, numerous life skills, a love of humor, and a sense of adventure. He was always ready to respond to a late-night call to tow out his teenager's car stuck in a snow drift (again), and he was always excited to put the Christmas lights up (and stubbornly leave them up until February).
He is preceded in death by his mother Eleanor Krauth O'Brien of Texas; his father William Krauth of Wisconsin; and his sister Patricia Andrews of Iowa.
He is survived by his daughter Katie Krauth of Alaska; brother Jeffrey Krauth and his wife Patricia of Colorado; brother Michael Krauth of Iowa; niece Tara Brockmeyer of Iowa; and nephew David Jarvinen of Iowa.
Per Mr. Krauth request cremation will take place.
