Mr. Roy L. Briggs Sr., a cherished patriarch, and a beacon of gentle strength, passed away on January 9, 2026, at the age of 85 in Michigan City, Indiana. Born on October 23, 1940, in Dumas, Arkansas, to the late Allen D. Briggs and Roxy Turntine, Roy was a man who lived a life marked by devotion to his family, his work, and his faith.
Roy grew up in the warm embrace of the Arkansas community and carried with him the values of hard work and kindness throughout his life. After completing his education in Arkansas, he embarked on a career that would see him become a respected forklift operator at Weil McClain, from which he retired in January of 2003 after many years of dedicated service.
Roy married LeVana Robinson on September 7, 2007, together they shared 18 years filled with love and mutual respect.
He is survived by his loving wife, LeVana Briggs of Michigan City, Indiana; his children: Elder LaVerne Briggs, Pastor Allen (Dana) Briggs Sr., Michael (Sandra) Briggs, Minister Karl (Ketta) Briggs, Nedra Cobb, and Kimberly (Keith) Jones; brother, Allen D. "A.D." Briggs of Illinois. Roy's legacy continues through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Mary Garner and Rosa Mae Davis, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and a church family who will miss him dearly.
Roy's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a member of the church formerly known as Redeemed Fellowship Church, now Renew MC Church, where he served as Emeritus Deacon and worshipped with a humble heart. His gentle spirit was evident to all who knew him, and his quiet strength was a source of comfort and inspiration.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Minola O. Henderson; one son, Roy L. Briggs Jr., one grandson, Roy L. Briggs III; three great grandchildren, Taniyah Briggs, Areanna J. Briggs, and Kaiden A. Briggs; two close friends, Sylvester Jackson and Eddie Lee Nixon.
Roy's presence was a gift to those around him, and his memory will be cherished in the stories and laughter shared among friends and family. Roy's journey on earth has ended, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a gentle soul who walked with integrity, loved with sincerity, and lived with purpose. May he rest in peace, knowing that his life was a testament to the enduring power of kindness and faith.
Funeral Services will be noon, January 24, 2026, at Renew MC Church. Viewing 11am January 24, 2026, at the church until the time of service.
