Robert Fredrick Obituary

Robert Fredrick was born on February 14, 1941, in Tutwiler, MS, to the union of Harvey and Annie. His parents preceded him in death. He was the second of eleven children—a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend. On March 5, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, Robert peacefully transitioned from labor to reward after an extended illness, which he faced with unwavering faith until his very last breath. His warmth and loving nature touched the lives of everyone he encountered throughout his 84 years.

Raised in Sumner, Mississippi, Robert attended West District Valley Elementary before continuing his education at Cregier Vocational High School in the heart of Chicago. It was there that the foundation was laid for a man of many talents and an unmatched work ethic. Throughout his life, he embraced various roles, including Co-owner of B&B Janitorial and J.A. Grocery, where he worked side by side with his beloved wife. His hands, though worn from years of hard work, were never too tired to fix what was broken or tend to his precious garden.

Robert leaves behind a legacy of love and steadfast devotion, exemplified by his 65-year-long marriage to his loving wife, Lula Fredrick of Chicago, IL. Together, they built a life rich in love, faith, and family. Their union was blessed with four children: Richard (Lildeanya) Fredrick II of South Holland, IL; Marilyn (Jackson) Chiadikobor of Oak Lawn, IL; Laura Fredrick-Goins; and Stephanie Fredrick, both of Chicago, IL. His life was further enriched by the presence of his six grandchildren—Neisha (Kevin) Wilborn, Rodrick (Ethel) Welch, Marlon Berkhalter, Richard Fredrick III, Rykia Fredrick, and Rykieshia Fredrick—who will forever cherish his wisdom, humor, and gentle spirit.

His siblings—Emma (Bobby) Bailey of South Holland, IL; John Benford of Chicago, IL; and Harvey (Rhonda) Neuman of North Beach, MD—along with his three sisters-in-law, Shelia Benford, Vernetta Neuman, and Diane Benford, will remember him for his boundless love and the joy he brought into their lives. Beyond his immediate family, Robert played a pivotal role in the lives of Sidney Hernton, Isaac Ricks, Laura Fredrick Sims, Rita Myrick, Sheila Merrell, who regarded him as a father figure and guiding light. Special appreciation to Lamont Ellis, Sarah Whitfield, Wendy Warren, Edward Warren and our Wolcott family.

Robert found peace and joy in gardening, tending to his blooms and greenery with patience and care. An avid sports fan, he could often be found passionately recounting tales of legendary games and players. His love for blues music was unmatched, and his enthusiasm for wrestling was second to none—he never missed a match, always ready to debate the outcomes with fervor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Willa Mae Jones, and Debora Neuman; eight brothers, Clarence L. Moore, George Benford, Jameel Benford, Solomon Benford, Eddie Benford, James Benford, Joe Benford, and Larry Neuman; and his son-in-law, Lafayette Goins.

Robert Fredrick’s life was one of love, devotion, and laughter. He was the cornerstone of his family, a beacon of light in his community, and a friend to all who knew him. Though his passing leaves a deep void, his memory will continue to inspire, comfort, and live on in the hearts of those he touched.
