Mother Lula Jackson Obituary

Lula Mae Jackson was born the third child to the late Roy and Lillie (Fitzpatrick) McMillion on March 28, 1941, in Cotton Plant, Arkansas.

She was an extraordinary woman of God, mother, and an excellent wife. In 1960, she entered a beautiful union with Roy C. Jackson, and they were blessed with five wonderful children, Gary Sandra, Sammy, Charlotte, and Isaac. She left Arkansas for Indiana in 1968 for only a short stay of six years and in 1974 she moved to Kansas City, Missouri where again it was only for a brief season before leaving in 1979 for Houston, Texas. Lula was far away from family and longed to be closer to her loved ones, she relocated in 1981 to Kansas City, Missouri where she found work at Western Crown Center as a cook. Cooking was a passion for her, she absolutely loved to do it, especially during the holidays. Her family would gather in large groups during this time of year and the desserts and dishes that she prepared were some of the most anticipated.

Lula kept her devotion to God and made sure her children were brought up in the way of the Lord. She was at the church-house whenever the doors of the church were open. While she was in Kansas City, she joined Miracle Temple Church. She was an usher and the cook for the church. After seventeen years, in 1997, she decided to relocate to Michigan City, Indiana, her home. Her commitment to God got her quickly known around the small town and the Holy Spirit led her to join Macedonian Baptist Church. She became a minister under the late Pastor Bill Ashley, she later became a member of Redeemed Fellowship and continued to minister, good friend and a child of the living God.

She was known as a woman with great wisdom, she had great compassion and a warm, loving, and sweet spirit. She put the fear of God in her children and led them on the right path. She had great faith in God Jesus and the Holy Spirit. She was a service to many; she opened her heart and arms to many and embraced people with much love and compassion. She didn’t know how to say “no” she would give her last if she could and she loved preaching and teaching the gospel.

She left this side of glory being known as Minister Lula Mae Jackson on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana. She is preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte Jackson; grandson, Pierre Jackson; siblings, Tommy McMillion, Sylvester McMillion, and Bernice Warren.

She is survived by her sons, Minister Gary (Shirley) Jackson, Sammy Jackson, Isaac Jackson; daughter, Sandra (Robert) Moore; brothers, Roy (Pat) McMillion, James (Teresa) McMillion, Bobby (Johnnie) McMillion, Myles McMillion; sisters, Minnie McMillion, Rosetta Hampton, Carolyn McMillion, Magdalene (Willie) Staten, Geneva (Sylvester) Pickens, Blanche Gilbert, Dorothy (Arthur) Ship; nine grandchildren, nineteen grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and her church family.

She was truly a soul winner; she will be truly missed by her family and friends.
