Letha Hicks Obituary

Mrs. Letha M. Hicks, a beacon of love and creativity, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 24, 2024, at Franciscan Hospice Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

Letha was born on July 15, 1957, Letha's life was a tapestry of dedication to her family, her work, and her passions. On October 24, 1985, she married the love of her life Mr. Willie "WC" Hicks in Michigan City, Indiana.

Letha's journey began in Michigan City, where she graduated from Rogers High School.  Letha's worked at Hertz Ford, and she later dedicated her life with being a stay-at-home mother, making sure that her children well taken care of and loved.

A loving mother and grandmother, Letha's heart was always with her children, LaTashia (Jason) Thompson of Michigan City, IN, Kizzy Hicks of Indianapolis, IN, Willie (fiancée Traci) Hicks of Mishawaka, IN, and Aretha (Kris) Goodaker of Anchorage, AK. Her ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren brought her immeasurable joy and were the light of her life.

Letha was the cherished sister to a loving and extensive family, including special brother William "Weibo" Collins, Joe (Jackie) Sparkman, David (Sonja) Sparkman of Alabama, Elizabeth (Carlos) Garcia of Plainfield, and her beloved sister, Patricia (Jeffery) Edwards of Avon, IN, Patricia (Edward) Wren-Rooks, Ricky Wren of South Dakota, Bobbie Jean Brown of North Carolina, Denise Collins, BB (Brandy) Collins, Dee Collins, Martha (Odell) Coleman, Mary (Ekenechukwu) Arize, Naomi Collins all of Michigan City, Steven Smith of Louisville, MS and Julie Fay Shield of North Carolina; two sisters-law, Jo Collins and Loretta Collins also held special places in her heart. Her siblings and a host of relatives will continue to honor her legacy by living out the values she taught through her own life.

Preceded in death by her parents, Leodis Collins Sr. and Gladys Moore-Sparkman, her beloved husband, Willie "WC" Hicks, brothers, Leodis Collins Jr., Larry Collins and Ether Lee Collins, and her nephew, Leland Collins, Letha leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance.

Letha's interests were as varied as they were rich. She had a talent for bringing dead flowers back to life, a metaphor for her ability to infuse beauty and vitality into every aspect of her existence. Her culinary skills, and she found great pleasure in cooking for her family. Sewing, writing, and watching movies were among her favorite pastimes, as was planting flowers, which mirrored the care she took in nurturing her family and friends. Letha's creative spirit was evident in all she did, and her loving nature made her a cherished figure in the lives of all who knew her.

Words like "creative" and "loving" only to begin to describe Letha. Her presence was a comforting constant in the lives of many, and her absence will be deeply felt. Beyond her roles in the family and at work, Letha's impact extended to all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her.

 Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love she gave so freely.

 

Letha's Celebration of Life will be 11am, Saturday, July 13, 2024 at River of Life Missionary Church with Pastor Roscoe Hoffman to give the eulogy. Pastor Allen Briggs will officiate. Viewing will be 10am-11am, Saturday, July 13, 2024 at River of Life Missionary Church.
