Larry Turner Obituary

Mr. Larry Turner departed this life 7:24pm, Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Carle Bromenn Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, February 7, 2023 from 11:30am-1:30pm at Emmanuel Funeral Home (Trail Creek) 3025 East Michigan Blvd, Trail Creek, Indiana 46360.  Please keep the Turner family in your prayers.

Larry Darnell Turner affectionally known as “Truck” was born on October 2nd, 1957, to the late Eugene and Willie Belle Turner Sr.

Larry attended Michigan City Area Schools, graduating from Elston Senior High School in 1976. After High school Larry moved to Muskegon, Michigan with family and went to college for accounting. In the late 1980’s Larry moved to Seattle, Washington with his big brother Charles. While living in Seattle Larry worked at a Shelter for abused women and was a DJ at one of the local radio stations. In the early 1990’s Larry made his way back to Michigan City, In. Larry worked at Westville Correctional Facility from 1993 until he retired in 2011. Larry also worked at The Westside Liquor Store for his Uncle Wilbert.

On October 2nd, 1993(His Birthday) Larry married the love of his life Melinda Tymes.  Larry “Truck” was loved by many for his comedian style personality along with his infectious smile, and the love he has for his family and friends, He had two catch phrases that he would say all the time, “You not talking bout nathan” and “Don’t be scared.” Larry enjoyed spending time with his wife, family, friends, and watching TV (the ID Channel). Larry’s love for music and having a good time with family and friends led him to become one of the best DJ's to come through Michigan City. He was the DJ for the parties in his old neighborhood Canada, especially at 235 F. Street. Larry never met a stranger, to know him is to love him. 

Larry leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, the love of his life, his wife of 31 years Melinda Turner of Bloomington, Illinois; sister, Brenda Turner of Michigan City, Indiana; brother, Joseph (Pennelope) Turner of Michigan City, Indiana; father and mother-in-love Willie R. and Arabell Tymes of Kissimmee, Florida;  Sisters-in-love, Faith Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana, Wanda (Belton) Carroll of Dacula, Georgia, and Alesia (Anwell) Wilbekin of St. Augustine, Florida; brother-in-love Cedric B. Tymes of Montgomery, Alabama; two aunts Mattie Turner of Michigan City, Indiana, Dorothy Woods of Chicago, Illinois. His nieces and nephews whom he loved like his own children, Eugene III, Tashia, Brian, Tierre, Lakisha, Latoya, Shaun, Star, Patrice, Joshua, Chanel, Anthony, Kristian, Ariel, Endia, Joshewa and Khalaya. His God Children, Aisha, Houston and Maurice. Many lifelong friends include Cassius Scott, Eddie Hull, Todd Scott, Danny Smith, Victor Cain, Thomas Murray, Ernest Stapleton. Along with a host of great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Larry was proceeded in death by his parents, Eugene and Willie Belle Turner Sr; one sister, Carol Ann Turner; three brothers, Bernard Leroy Turner, Eugene Turner Jr, and Charles Allen Turner; two nephews, Gregory Fischer and Dominique Turner.

Larry will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Take your rest Larry.
