Joyce Johnson Obituary

It was a cold day on Monday, December 13, 1954, in the small town of Anderson, Indiana, that Noble Lee and Wilhelmina White were blessed with a beautiful bundle of joy; and they named her Joyce Elaine White.

Joyce attended Anderson Community Schools and played the flute in her high school marching band. She graduated from Anderson High School, in the class of 1976. Joyce worked as a secretary at the Anderson Community Action Center.

Joyce confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior in her early adulthood. She was a faithful member of Greenbriar Community Church, under the leadership of Pastor Brad Brizendine. Joyce loved reading the Bible. One of her favorite scriptures was St. John 14:   “1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also...”         And, her favorite gospel song was “Trouble in My Way”.

She loved writing and sending cards to her family and friends, as well as spending time with her grandchildren.

Joyce E. White-Johnson passed away on September 30, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, one grandchild, Kyndle Bannister; one brother, James Willie “JW” Heffner and sister-in-law, Josephine Heffner.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two loving daughters, Nikki Woodall (fiancé) Maurice Bannister and Nina White; siblings, Marsha White, Noble (Jane) White, Minister Carol Timmons, John (Serena) Harmon, Gene White, Rachel White, Elder Timothy (Burnetta) White, Barton “Bus” (Faye) White, Lazarus (Zenna) White, Sarah Moore and Ruth White; grandchildren, Jasmine Woodall, J.C. Woodall, Nickolas Bannister, Paulina White, Kei White; great grandchildren, Jahmelle Woodall, Rojelio Rodriguez, and Zion Rodriguez; two maternal uncles, Deacon John (Emma) Cain and Lee (Ollie) Cain; three maternal aunts, Dorothy Lewis, Melvina Cain and Reola Riley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

To know Joyce was to love her; and her soft-spoken voice and her warm smile will always be remembered.
