Jerome Anderson Sr.

May 4, 1953 ~ May 28, 2023 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Jerome Anderson Sr., a man of great humor, boundless generosity, and adventurous spirit. Born on the 4th of May 1953, in the bustling city of Chicago, IL, Jerome was called to his eternal rest on the 28th of May, 2023, in Michigan City, IN.

Jerome was the beloved son of the late Wedell Reid and Willie Elijah Anderson, and the cherished grandson of the late John and Mardee Reid. He was the brother of the late John Arthor Anderson, and the adored sibling of Claria Thompson, Sylvia Nichols, and Walter Lee Johnson Jr., all of Canton, MS.

In the bloom of his youth, Jerome was united in marriage to the late Mary Magdalene Carr, a union that bore the sweet fruits of love and parenthood. He was a devoted husband and father to his children: Bridgett Farmer (deceased), Janella Anderson (deceased), Byron Phillips of Minneapolis, MN, Pernell Starks of Granger, IN, and Jerome Anderson Jr. of Michigan City, IN.

Jerome, affectionately known as "Paw Paw," took great delight in the company of his nine grandchildren: Jerome Anderson III, David Farmer Jr., Kayla Nelson, Mia Foster, Mikal Little, Alandra Starks, Daraus Starks, Sydney Starks, and Surayyah Starks.

Having received his formal education from Michigan City area schools, Jerome went on to labor with dedication and diligence at Josam and as a custodian at Michigan City Area Schools. His tireless work ethic was matched only by his love for life and his passion for his family.

Jerome's interests were as diverse as they were delightful. He loved to fish, an activity that no doubt brought to mind the immortal words of the poet Lord Byron: "There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore." Jerome also had a penchant for barbecues – those convivial gatherings that brought together family and friends in a spirit of camaraderie and good cheer.

His adventurous nature led him to travel far and wide, visiting family in Champaign Urbana, IL, and Mississippi, where he created cherished memories with his cousins, aunts, and uncles. Jerome was a man of many interests, and his enthusiasm for sports knew no bounds. He was ever ready to support the winning team, earning him the moniker of a true "bandwagon" fan.

Jerome Anderson Sr. was a man who lived life to the fullest, embracing each day with a zest for adventure and an unquenchable curiosity. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his memory lives on in the laughter, love, and generosity he so freely shared throughout his life.
