Jenkins McKnight Jr., known to many as "Dino” dubbed as “Junebug” then later as “Uncle Jr” by family, was born on December 30, 1944, in Gary, Indiana. He passed away on August 4, 2024, in Michigan City, Indiana at Franciscan Hospital. Jenkins leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Throughout his life journey, Jenkins touched the hearts of countless individuals with his unwavering charm and timeless attractiveness. His child-like chuckle and pliable heart endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Jenkins was a hardworking man with an unyielding work ethic that spanned over 36 years before he retired. His dedication and commitment were evident in everything he did.
Jenkins took great pride in being the best father he could be to his three daughters: Jenifer (Darius) Rose McKnight-Miles (49), Carrie Lynn (Eric) McKnight-Griffin (44), and Jenaia Nicole McKnight (44). Additionally, he shared a special bond with his only son Brandon Guess (45)—their love transcended hardship and distance. From their parentage, Jenkins gained nine grandchildren: Richard Mitchell 28, Kenyatta Mitchell 28, Joanie Bell 24, Lauren Pringle 23, Jaina Bell 22, Arika Griffin 19, Benjamin Bell 17, London Ariel Guess 11, and Jeremiah Bell 10.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, Jenkins is survived by three sisters: Rosie McKnight-McCrimson (85), Thelma Howell (81), and Louvena (Ferry) Poole (70). Their memories together are filled with laughter and joy that will live on through their stories for generations to come. Jenkins also leaves many cousins, nephews, nieces, and caring friends. Their support brought comfort during difficult times and added joy during moments of loneliness.
He was preceded in death by two beloved sisters: Deloris Kersey; and Ora Ray; parents Jenkins McKnight Sr. and Rosie Roby; grandparents Leandre and Luberta McKnight, Elbert and Louise Triplett.
As we mourn the loss of Jenkins McKnight Jr as our brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather, or friend – let us remember not only how much he meant to each one of us individually but also how important faith in Jesus Christ is to live a life that brings hope, love, and peace into this world.
May you rest peacefully now, Jenkins McKnight Jr - your memory will always remain alive within our hearts.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for August 14th, 2024 at 11am at Greater Powerhouse Church of God in Christ 428 North Woodland Avenue, Michigan City, Indiana 46360 where loved ones will gather to honor the life of Jenkins McKnight Jr. Pastor Edker Hull will give the eulogy. Viewing will be 9am, August 14th, 2024 until the time of service at Greater Powerhouse Church of God in Christ. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Hobart, Indiana.
