We sadly announce the passing of Mr. J. C. Moore, J. C. who was born on February 16, 1951, in Lilbourn, Missouri, to the late Willie “Bill” and Betsy Mae (Gray) Moore. He passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 5, 2023, at Franciscan Health in Michigan City, Indiana, leaving behind a legacy of love, and hard work to his family and community.
J. C. was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was introduced to Charlene E. Arrington by one of his customers, who happened to be Charlene's mother. Their connection was immediate, leading to an engagement just six months later. They shared an incredible twenty loving years together, creating many cherished memories.
J. C. received his formal education from the Berrien Springs Area Schools, graduating from Berrien Springs High School. He furthered his education at Andrew University, proving his commitment to lifelong learning. J. C.'s work ethic was unparalleled. He held positions at Auto Specialist, Head Start Early Childhood Program, Benton Harbor Area Schools, and Landscaping. His colleagues knew him as a reliable and dependable worker, always ready to lend a hand.
Beyond his work and family, J. C. had a deep commitment to his faith. He joined the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church under the loving guidance of his wife. As a steadfast supporter of Pastor Moore, J. C. was considered the backbone of the congregation, gaining more family members in the process.
J. C. was known for his love of the outdoors and his knack for being a handyman. He took great pride in his work, whether it was a professional project or a personal endeavor. If he could put his hands on it, he could make it work. This creative spirit made him a valuable asset at home and at church, where his skills were often put to good use.
J. C. leaves to cherish his fond memories to his beloved wife, Pastor Charlene E. Arrington-Moore; three children, Rachel, Jessica, and Michael Moore, Sr., sisters, Ruth Holiday, Millie Carter, Patrica Moore, Mary Moore, Helen Moore-Allen; brother, Danny Moore. His love for family extended to his grandchildren, Michael Moore, Jr., Marquez Moore, Demarion Moore, and QueShawn Moore, Tremcia Kirkland, Charlette Williams, Jim Jenkins, Shaheed Journey, Shakwon Journey, Shynisha Journey, and Kwonj'shaun Moore; great grandchildren, Summayah Journey, Sophia Journey and Atreus Journey.
J. C. was preceded in death by one sister, Karen Perkins.
Those who knew J. C. will remember him as a thoughtful, handy, creative man and dedicated worker. He had a unique ability to see potential in everything, turning ordinary objects into extraordinary creations. His positive attitude and willingness to help others were the traits of his character.
Funeral Services will be 12pm, CST Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church 629 E. Michigan Blvd with Elder Samuel L. Sumner to give the eulogy. Burial will take place in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 11:00am CST, Wednesday, September 13, 2023 until the time of service at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
