George Roberts Obituary

George H. Roberts, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. Born on November 1, 1941, in Augusta, Arkansas, to the late Rozelle and Eloise Spearman Roberts, George was a beacon of joy and resilience throughout his 84 years.

George attended Isaac C Elston High School, laying the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and dedication. His commitment to family was evident from a young age, a trait that would only grow stronger with time.

On February 12, 1966, he was united in marriage to Gloria L. Woodard. Their union was blessed with three daughters.

Professionally, George was a stalwart employee at Midwest Steel/US Steel, where he dedicated 30 years of service before retiring in 2003. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through as he became part-owner of the Regulars alongside his buddies, creating a legacy on the west side of Michigan City, Indiana.

Later in life, George moved to Indianapolis to be closer to his family, a decision that brought him immense happiness and allowed him to create countless more memories with his loved ones.

A man of varied interests, George found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed going to the casino where he played the slot machines. George was often found at the dining room table, playing cards and dominoes with his “favorite little people,” and sitting in the backyard with his puppy Sammie, vibing to his favorite song “Silent Night” by the Temptations, a tune that could always bring a smile to his face and spending time with his family or looking for a quarter to play the scratch offs in hopes of a lucky win.

On February 24, 2026, George gained his wings at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his legacy endures through those who survive him. Preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, father and mother-in-law, beloved daughter, Nicole, siblings Charles, Booker, and Claudette, grandson, Patrick Elliott, along with other family and friends.

George's memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Gloria L. Roberts; sister, Linda Fortson; daughters, Dawn Roberts and Tamara (Allen) Millbrook; son, Dennis (Arlena) Hart; bonus daughters, Sarah Moore and Erica “Bubbles” Cooper; grandchildren, 10 grandchildren, Nikia, Marshay, Andrea (Quantavious), Jayla, Jasmine, Aunyae, Jamarea, Denquise, DaKesha, Amunique, Caleb, bonus granddaughter Deminia (Joey), 20 great-grandchildren, Izariah, Azaria, Aunestie, Jaliyah, LaiLani, Promise, Seoni, Jonathan, Zariyah, Zaniyah, Desire, Arrea, Adavion, Adrien, Jamari, Destiny, Lilli-ana, Patrick, Juelz, Ja’Monie, 7 bonus great grandchildren Joey Jr., Geirdon, Bre’Ajah, Sarie, Jael, Joel, Jorey, bonus great great granddaughter Geniyah, godsister, Shirley Jeanes; special sister Kevin Ann Cooper, special cousin, Calvin Simmons, and along with numerous relatives and friends who were touched by his generous spirit.
