Erma Lee Perry was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi on April 19, 1932, the last child of 12 born to the late Ena and Lena Perry.
Erma began working at an early age at South Side Cleaners, owned by her older Sister Geneva. After learning valuable lessons while working with Geneva, she opened her own business, Flamingo Café. In later years she opened one of the first state of Mississippi’s licensed package liquor stores, Erma’s Package Liquors where she remained until 1974.
After the death of her mother, Erma relocated to Michigan City, Indiana where she began working at Kaiser Aluminum/Wanatah until her retirement after 20 years.
Erma exchanged time for eternity surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 22, 2022.
Erma was the proud Mother of two children, Donal Perry and Kathy Perry-Mitchell, both of Michigan City, Indiana; five grandchildren, Donyael (Tammy) Henry, Nicki Henry and Natrojan (Sheron) Buckner of Southaven, Mississippi; Erma Nicole Hogan and Nicholas (Courtney) Hogan of Michigan City, Indiana; 11 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and a close friend, Tammy Wright. Erma was predeceased by her siblings McKinley, Blanche, Charlie, Geneva, Malissie, Troy, Ferdinand, Dave, Tommy, Ruby, and Willa.
Per Erma’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial services. She will be laid to rest at a later date in the family plot in Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
