Edmund Taylor Obituary

Edmund Lamont Taylor, affectionately known as Monty, who was born on June 24, 1960, in the bustling city of Chicago, Illinois. Monty's journey on this earth came to a peaceful close on May 21, 2025, in Michigan City, Indiana, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.

Monty was a cherished son, born to the late Ernest Freeman and Fannie Taylor (née Johnson). His early years were filled with the vibrant energy of Chicago, where he attended the local public schools and laid the foundation for the resilient, hardworking man he would become. Although he was preceded in death by his sister Lori Taylor, his fiancée Velma Pitts and son Chris Crawford, Monty's legacy is carried on through his beloved family.

Monty's life was rich with love and laughter, shared with his two sisters, Elizabeth Taylor and Marie Taylor, both of Michigan City, Indiana, and his three brothers, Brian Taylor and Robert Taylor, also from Michigan City, and Victor Taylor of Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was a devoted father to his five children, Teraz Hudson, Tica Crawford, both of Michigan City, Indiana Edmund Taylor Jr., Elizabeth Taylor, and Louis Taylor,  in Lansing, Michigan.

The joy of Monty's life was magnified by his grandchildren, Alexis Crawford and Colton Crawford, Lakinza Lenoir, Olivia Johnson, Vanessa Nixon, and Tegis Turner. His great-grandchildren, Zahara Lenoir, Cedric Marlow, Colton Crawford Jr., Azariah Bureau, Sincere Marlow, LeBron Farmer, Amara Crawford, God'Dier Farmer, and Goddess Farmer, brought him immeasurable happiness. Monty also leaves behind his godsisters, Patricia Taylor, Mary Anderson, and Doris Howell, as well as his best friend, Keith Rose, and many relatives who will all miss his presence dearly. Monty's adored pet, Shadow, was a constant companion and source of comfort throughout his life.

Monty's professional life was characterized by his dedication and work ethic. He spent many years as a laborer and janitor, roles in which he took great pride and through which he formed lasting friendships. His colleagues will remember him as a man who always lent a helping hand and greeted everyone with a smile.

Monty's passions were as diverse as they were deep. An avid gamer, he could often be found with a controller in hand, immersed in the latest video game. Western shows were a staple of his entertainment, providing him with countless hours of enjoyment. His love for sports was all-encompassing, as he relished the thrill of competition and the camaraderie of fans.

In the kitchen, Monty was a wizard with flavors and a maestro with a skillet. Though he never had formal culinary training, his cooking skills were on par with those of a seasoned chef. His dishes were the highlight of every holiday, and his family will forever cherish the memories of gathering around the table to savor his creations.

Monty's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of joy, resilience, and love. He left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends. As we bid farewell to Edmund Lamont "Monty" Taylor, let us remember the laughter, the wisdom, and the warmth he shared with us all. His was a life well-lived, full of moments that will be treasured forever.
