Dora Allison Obituary

Mother Dora M. Allison was born January 16, 1940 in Jackson, Mississippi, to the union of Aaron and Viola Allison.

In 1943 when Dora was 2 years old, her father, Aaron worked at Pullman field which brought him and his family to Joliet, IL. And eventually to Michigan City, IN.

Dora accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a faithful member of Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ located in South Bend, IN where she served on many different auxiliaries including President of the Prayer and Bible Band, Member of the Mother’s Board, Nurses Unit and the Senior Choir.

Dora received her Teaching Certificate in Early Childhood Education from Goshen College and an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education from Southwest Michigan College.

Dora was employed by Community Organization of Social Concern (COSC) Head Start program, under the direction of Ernestine Barnard, for forty-five years at the Byrd House / ABC Room location, where she worked with some awesome Co-Teachers Gina A. Mitchell, Eartha Coleman, Dorothy Spencer and Shavonne Manley. Dora's dedication to education and her community is commendable, and her contributions will be remembered by those whose lives she touched. Dora retired from Head Start in 2015.  She continued to contribute to her community by volunteering at CARE Learning Center. Dora was an avid reader and enjoyed sitting on the deck reading, especially Westerns.

Dora was truly blessed; her decision to accept Christ as her Lord and Savior brought immeasurable blessings in terms of spiritual guidance, peace, and a sense of belonging. It is wonderful that Dora found a path that brought joy, fulfillment, and a connection to something greater than herself. Dora's blessings are a testament to the positive impact she has had on others and the choices she has made in her life.

Dora is preceded in death by her father and mother Aaron and Viola Allison. Beloved sisters Barbara Woodley, and Julia Cuff; three brothers Tommie Allison, Leon Allison and Jeffery Allison; two loving sons Tommie James Allison and Ronald Edward Allison; one beloved daughter Mary Jane Tejero, two grandsons Jorge Tejero Jr. and Tommie Allison II.

One Sister Marie Lewis and Brother Jarome Allison; Son in love, Jorge Tejero all of Michigan City IN.  Her Church family and a host of loving relatives and friends.
