Demetrius “Meechie” Shunell Echols was born on March 28, 1987, to Teresa (Booker) Sanders and Richard Echols in South Bend, Indiana.
He dedicated his life to the Lord at a young age. Demetrius attended Greater Powerhouse Church of God in Christ.
Demetrius attended Ivy Tech State College. He enjoyed working with his hands in construction and lumber work. Throughout the years, Demetrius enjoyed writing poems that reflected lifes’ toil and the elation of overcoming each obstacle by relying on the Lord and family.
Demetirus was well-known for his generous spirit, his words of wisdom, and his open heart. Demetrius had a warm smile and a dimpled laugh that was infectious; he was a jokester. Though the time we shared our lives with him was short, Demetrius’ presence in our lives was a blessing and a gift.
Demetrius was a dedicated father, brother, and son.
Demetrius Shunell Echols passed away on October 31, 2022, at the age of 35 in South Bend, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandmother Idene and his great grandfather, Wille Ward.
He is survived by his, parents, Teresa (Booker) Sanders and Richard Echols; four children, Demetrius “DJ” Echols Jr., Da'Veyah Amira Echols, Ziana Ada Echols, and Christian Amir Echols; brothers and sisters - Dominiano (Selise Shaw) Echols, Kenwood (Daja Hodges) Toy, Martel Toy, Danielle Echols, April Echols, Brandi Echols, Richard Echols III, Booker Sanders Jr., James Sanders, India Sanders, Jared Sanders, Reggie Sanders, and Acasia Sanders. He leaves to cherish his memory to his fiancée, Crystal White. He was the beloved grandson of Tina and DeCarlo Thornton, Johnny (Kim Watts) McGee, and James Page; aunts Casherril (William) Howell, Carla Allen, and Joan (Terry) Johnson; Godmother, Alicia Cooper. He leaves to cherish his memory, many great aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
