Mr. Demariya L. Baker, after experiencing abdominal GSW, he departed this life on April 30, 2021.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at New Covenant Outreach Ministries. Burial will take place at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Viewing will be 12 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the church until the time of service.
Demariya was born in Michigan City, Indiana, on Nov. 20, 1998, to Dawanda Baker and Dshawn Jeanes Sr.
He attended New Covenant Outreach Ministries Church. Demariya graduated from Michigan City High School. He worked multiple security jobs and he also held a position with Emergency Management.
Demariya was a joy to be around. He was a big kid with a kind heart. You would see him volunteering with his contagious smile. He enjoyed eating out at restaurants, taking his cousins swimming and playing “Cops.” Demariya spent most of his time helping others and making sure they were safe.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Dawanda Baker and Dshawn (Alesia) Jeanes, both of Michigan City; maternal grandparents, Douglas (Sondra Lenoir) Baker Sr. of Michigan City; paternal grandparents, Betty Jeanes and William Johnson, both of Chicago; siblings, DeAndre Baker, Deneshea Bowers, Armani Jeanes, Justina Bowers, Mishawn Bowers, Jamaree Bowers and Dshawn Jeanes; aunts, Dalonda Baker, Patricia (Craig) Duke and Letitia Sutton; uncles, Douglas Baker Jr., Jose Jeanes, Tyree (Rosalind) Jeanes, Derrick Sutton, Major Sutton, Tyrone Johnson, Brian Johnson and Timmy Johnson; special moms, Krystle Brewer and Shavonte Hurt; special cousins, Jose, Zyshonne, Dontarius, Zayla, Zaria and Di’Jonay; close friends, Devin Newton, Officer Marty Corley, Kristen Noonan, Mariam Davis and Antyanna Triplett; and a host of cousins and friends.
