Darlene Harris Obituary

Darlene Maria Harris, age 70, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, of natural causes. She was born on November 18, 1955, in Louisville, Kentucky, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, kindness to others, and a steady spirit that touched all who knew her.

Darlene was the beloved daughter of the late Rev. BJ Miller and Gladys Miller, both of whom preceded her in death. She carried the values of faith, hard work, and compassion throughout her life, honoring the legacy of her parents in the way she cared for her family and conducted herself each day. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength, and she will be remembered for the warmth she shared so freely with those around her.

She is survived by her three children, LaShauna (Jorge) Roberts, James (LaTisha) Harris, and Michael Harris. Darlene was a proud and loving mother whose greatest joy came from her children and the family she helped nurture. She is also survived by her sister, Denise “Niecie” Miller and brother Peewee Miller, as well as six cherished grandchildren.

Darlene attended some college and believed in the value of learning and personal growth. She dedicated her working years as a Bus Aide with Michigan City Area School Transportation, where she served with patience, responsibility, and care. In that role, she was known for her dependable nature and her gentle manner with the children and families she encountered. Her work reflected the same dedication she brought to every part of her life, and she took pride in being someone others could count on.

Outside of work, Darlene found joy in simple and meaningful pursuits. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, and working in her yard. Whether she was making something with her hands or tending to her yard, she found satisfaction in caring for the things around her and making them flourish. Her home and her surroundings were often a reflection of her thoughtful touch and personal style.

Darlene will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
