Dalene A. Lewis, a beacon of kindness, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, surrounded by her family at her home.
She was born on November 7, 1952, in Michigan City, IN to the late Dale and Mary (Marez) Frazier, Dalene's life was one marked by love, and a passion for the simple joys of life.
Dalene's journey began in Michigan City where she would later leave her indelible mark. She attended Elston High School, where she formed lifelong friendships and developed a love for arts and crafts that would stay with her throughout her life. Her creative spirit was a source of joy not only for her but for all who were lucky enough to witness her talents.
Most importantly, she served at her family church that her mother owned. She loved the Lord. Dalene watered the flowers, did fund raisers for the church and cleaned up after each service. Anything that needed to be done she was always there to help.
On a beautiful Christmas Day in 1999, Dalene married the love of her life, Kevin Lee Lewis Sr., in a ceremony that celebrated their union and the blending of their families. Together, they embarked on a life filled with laughter, and the shared responsibility of running a successful security company. As time went by, Dalene decided to dedicate herself to her home and family, becoming a cherished stay-at-home wife.
Dalene's heart was expansive, and her capacity for love knew no bounds. She raised her grandson, Xavier Friend, with the same love and care as if he were her own child. Her granddaughter, Kendall Friend (Derick Leary) Friend, and her stepchildren, Megan (Andre McGregor Sr.) Lewis, Kevin (Hayley Halfacre) Lewis II, Heather Lewis, and Amanda Lewis, all benefited from her nurturing spirit. She also held a special place in her heart for Danielle (Nathan) Taylor, whom she considered a daughter. A natural nurturer, Dalene's home was always filled with life, from the laughter of her stepgrandchildren, Caleb Reinhart, Andre McGregor Jr., Andrea McGregor, Adrianna McGregor, A’maria McGregor, Kayliana Lewis, Rhylen Lewis, Kinley Lewis, and Ivin Lewis, Lily Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor and Madelynn Taylor; great-grandchildren IsaBella Leary, and Mason Leary to the playful antics of her dog, Trouble. Her sister, Marsha (John) Wachowski, will fondly remember the bond they shared, a testament to the family ties that Dalene held so dear.
Although Dalene's life was one of joy and fulfillment, she also knew sorrow. She was preceded in death by her only son, Chad Friend, her parents, and sister, Charlotte Holm-Hansen. Their memories remained a cherished part of her life, and she carried their spirits with her in everything she did.
Dalene's interests extended beyond the walls of her home. An avid gardener, she found peace and solace in the beauty of nature. Her garden was a reflection of her inner beauty, with vibrant colors and fragrant blooms that brought a sense of tranquility to all who visited.
Those who knew Dalene will remember her as the epitome of kindness. Her gentle demeanor and warm smile were a comfort to many, and her presence was a source of stability and love. She had the rare ability to make everyone feel at home. Dalene spirit will continue to inspire us, reminding us to approach each day with kindness and to find beauty in the world around us. She will be deeply missed.
