Brenda J. Getter, the eldest daughter of the union of Eugene P. Getter and Barbara R. (Jones) Getter, began life’s journey on January 21, 1965 in Harlem, New York.
She obtained her formal education in the public schools of Michigan City, her proudest moment when she received her GED. Brenda’s important roles were being a mother, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant and then later as a Qualified Medication Aide.
She attended Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Prophet Robert Johnson.
Brenda’s favorite hobbies were gardening and bowling. She loved to work on cross word puzzles, arts and crafts, interior decorating, and refurbishing furniture.
On Tuesday, March 30, 2021, Brenda J. Getter was called home to be with her Lord and Savior. She received the greatest grace of eternal peace, where there is no sadness or tears. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene P. Getter; stepfather, Arthur Jackson; maternal grandparents, Odessa Slocum-Jones-Durden and Ester Jones; sister, Cynthia Marie Lee-Matthews; special sisters, Theodore “Teddy” Thompson and Carol Walker-Johnson.
Her life, memories, smile and her willingness to help others will always be remembered and cherished by: her three amazing children, Kevin Getter Sr., Indianapolis, Indiana, Jeremy Simpson and LaToya Simpson, Michigan City, Indiana; special son, James Simpson Jr., Indianapolis, Indiana; mother, Barbara R. Jackson, Gary, Indiana; siblings, the Reverend Anthony Getter of Michigan City, Indiana, Minister Valerie (Shola) Getter-Akinyeye of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sandra Getter of Gary, Indiana, Minister Joey (Deminia) Walker, Sr., of Portage, Indiana and Anna (Deacon Raymond) Spencer of Michigan City, Indiana; grandchildren, Alleyah Getter, Kevin Getter Jr., Kenneth Getter, Terrion Wright, TaLia Lemons and Mya Simmons; special friends, Lisa Roberts and Jerome Anderson, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and associates.
Brenda’s best advice was “Stay true to yourself.”
Her celebration of life will be 11am, Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church 730 West 6th Street with Pastor Robert Johnson to give the eulogy. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Viewing will be 10am, Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church until the time of service.
