Arthur L. Hicks passed away peacefully due to natural causes on December 26, 2023, in Michigan City, IN. Born on April 21, 1952, in Star City, AR, Arthur's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, work, and the simple joys of life.
Arthur was the cherished son of the late Hardy Hicks Sr. and Susietta (Ward) Hicks. His life was rich with the love of family, including his daughter, Sherry N. Hicks, who preceded him in death, and his cherished surviving daughter, Shalonda (Eric Tunson) Hicks-Tunson of Denver, CO. Arthur's legacy continues through his six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, who brought him joy.
The Hicks family tree is one of deep roots and enduring bonds. Arthur was a brother to many, both in blood and in spirit. His brothers Willie Lee Hicks, Robert Hicks, W.C. Hicks Sr., and Walter Arnold, as well as his sisters Louise Swink and Linda Treadwell, preceded him in death. Arthur is fondly remembered by his surviving siblings: Hardy (Bobby) Hicks Jr. of Pine Bluff, AR; Johnny (Diann) Hicks of Illinois; Mary Mian of Downers Grove, IL Vera (Luster Sr.) Lewis of Michigan City, IN; Elvira Hughes of Denver, CO; and Kimmer Arnold of Pine Bluff, AR. His brother-in-law, Robert Treadwell of Pine Bluff, AR, and sister-in-law, Letha Hicks of Indianapolis, IN, also share in the family's loss.
Arthur's life was further enriched by his nephews, who were as close as brothers. Elder LaVerne Briggs, Pastor Allen (Dana) Briggs, Sr., Roy (Cynthia) Briggs Jr., Michael (Sandra) Briggs, Sr., Minister Karl (Keta) Briggs, Ronnie Ellison, Luster (Penny) Lewis, Minister Lonnie (Leslie) Lewis, and Terry (Raina) Lewis, two childhood friends, Allen Minor and Essie Mae Dale both of Gould, AR and one associate, Tyrone Robertson all held special places in his heart.
Arthur received his general education in Gould, AR. He later moved to Michigan City, IN he went on to build a career marked by hard work and reliability. For 20 years, he was a dedicated assembler at Blocksom & Co Plant in Michigan City, IN, before continuing his professional journey at Hanks Garage in LaPorte, IN. His colleagues knew him as a man with a strong work ethic.
Travel was one of Arthur's greatest passions, and he relished the opportunity to visit family in Michigan, Colorado, and Illinois. These trips were not only a chance to explore new places but also to strengthen the bonds with his loved ones, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
As we say goodbye to Arthur L. Hicks, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. His spirit, characterized by generosity and kindness, will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Arthur L. Hicks, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His journey on earth has come to a peaceful end, but the stories of his life will be recounted with fondness and admiration for generations to come.
Arthur's family and friends will gather to honor his memory and celebrate the profound impact he had on their lives at 12noon, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church 3007 South Ohio Street, Michigan City, Indiana with Pastor Allen Briggs to give the eulogy. Viewing will be 11am, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church until the time of services.
