Mrs. Arcelia Patten, lovingly known as Mother Patten was born February 4, 1940 in Fort White, Florida to Joshua Randell and Efletta (nee Hopkins) Randell. Mother Patten was called home to glory Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Life Care Center of Michigan City.
Mother Patten, the cherished wife of George Patten, walked hand in hand with her beloved for over five decades, their union having commenced in the blessed month of February in the year 1970 in the great state of Illinois. Their marriage was a testament to love, a courtship of the heart, and a partnership rooted in mutual respect and unwavering support.
This virtuous woman was born to Joshua Randell and Efletta Randell, nee Hopkins, who preceded her in the journey to the everlasting. Mother Patten was a loving sister to Frances Legree, Emma Barnett, and Lorenzo Hopkins. She was also the doting godmother to Nicholas Stewart and the late Shyllis Garrett, leaving a legacy of love to a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will continue to cherish her memory.
Educated in the warm embrace of Fort White, Mother Patten carried with her the strength and resilience of her roots. She dedicated many years of service to Dr. Norman M. Beatty Memorial Hospital in Westville, Indiana, which later became Westville Correctional Facility, touching lives and spreading kindness in her professional journey.
Mother Patten was a steadfast member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, serving the Lord under the leadership of Pastor R. T. Shipp and Eddie L. Jenkins. She lifted her voice in the choir, offered her hands as a nurse, stood firm on the mother’s board, and was a fervent prayer warrior. Her faith was a living, breathing testament to the power of God's love. Later, she moved her membership to the Community Baptist Church of Union Pier, MI, where she continued to worship under the guidance of Pastor John McGee.
Life's simple pleasures brought great joy to Mother Patten. She relished the times she spent with her husband at live shows, creating memories that danced through time. In her kitchen, she was an artist, baking pies that were a slice of heaven and cooking meals that nourished both body and soul.
To speak of Mother Patten is to speak of love, for she was the embodiment of a faith-filled heart. Her love was a sanctuary, her faith a shield, and her life a sermon of compassion and grace. She walked in beauty, like the night of cloudless climes and starry skies, and in her presence, we found a love that was more than love.
Celebration of Life will be 12:00pm E.S.T. (11:00am C.S.T.)
